Interview de John Grunsfeld, astronaute de la NASA qui a effectué 5 missions à bord de la navette spatiale



John M. Grunsfeld, physicien, est un astronaute de la NASA sélectionné en 1992 dans le Groupe 14.

Il effectue 5 missions à bord de la navette spatiale (STS-67, STS-81, STS-103, STS-109 et STS-125). On le surnomme Monsieur Télescope car 4 de ses missions concernent directement un travail en orbite avec des télescopes, dont 3 missions sur Hubble.

En novembre 2009, le National Geographic Adventurers le consacre Aventurier de l'Année.

Il quitte la NASA au début de l'année 2010.

Interview de John M. Grunsfeld concernant sa première missions spatiale STS-67 (Astro-2) où plusieurs observations avec différents télescopes embarqués dans Endeavour ont été effectuées.


How many years were you connected to the space program prior to your flight ?
3 Years

How did you feel prior to the flight ?
Very Excited

What kinds of sensations did you experience during take-off ?
A sense of ame at the sheer power of it all


What does weightlessness feel like, and what did you think about during the flight ?
Magical feeling !


What were some of the problems you encountered and how did you fixed them ?
The telescopes didn’t point right, but we took manual control and finished the observations


What did you eat, and did it taste real ?
Freeze dried space food. Not very tasty or nutritous

What was re-entry like ?
Much smoother than launch


Were you glad to be back on earth, or did you feel you could have spent the rest of your life up there ?
I like living in space and would happy to stay
